CSOs Successfully Completes M&E Training in Tzaneen
From June 4th to 7th, 2024, Tzaneen played host to a significant training event aimed at enhancing the skills of project managers and coordinators in the field of monitoring and evaluation (M&E). Held across two venues, Hotel@Tzaneen and Karibu Lodge. The training saw the participation of 126 individuals, with 62 attendees in Group 01 at Hotel@Tzaneen and 64 in Group 02 at Karibu Lodge.
The primary audience for this training comprised project managers and project coordinators from various CSOs, particularly those with roles that inherently involve monitoring and evaluation responsibilities but lack formal training in this critical area.
This non-accredited training unit aimed to raise awareness and deepen understanding of monitoring and evaluation practices among professionals who play an embedded role in M&E within their organisations. The programme was particularly beneficial for M&E specialists in non-profit and business sectors, offering them the knowledge and tools needed to enhance their work profiles effectively.
The comprehensive training programme covered several key areas:
- Purpose of M&E as a Management Function: Participants learned about the fundamental importance of M&E in managing projects and programmes, focusing on how it contributes to improved accountability and effectiveness.
- Policy and Organisational Documents Analysis: This segment involved analysing current policies and organisational documents related to M&E, helping participants understand how these frameworks guide and impact their work.
- Conceptualising a Monitoring and Evaluation System: Attendees were guided on how to develop and implement an M&E system tailored to their specific programmes, projects, or organisations. This hands-on approach ensured that participants could directly apply the concepts learned.
- Application of Monitoring and Evaluation in Specific Work Roles: The training also assessed how M&E principles and practices are applied in various roles, providing insights into integrating these functions seamlessly into everyday tasks and responsibilities.
The non-accredited M&E training in Tzaneen was an important step in empowering project managers and coordinators with the necessary skills to implement effective M&E practices within their organisations. By focusing on practical application and the strategic importance of M&E, the training aimed to elevate the overall standard of project management and organizational effectiveness. This initiative underscored the value of continuous learning and capacity building in driving sustainable development and operational excellence.
