Community Responses and Systems (CRS)
Beyond Zero recognises that community organisations and networks have a unique ability to interact with affected communities, react quickly to community needs and issues, provide direct services and engage with key affected and vulnerable groups.
Beyond Zero was awarded a three-year grant to implement the CRS Module from March 2020 to March 2022 in the Eastern Cape, Free State and Limpopo with a clear framework that is driven by the belief that communities contribute to improving health in a number of ways, depending on their capacity and on their context, including:
Managing and delivering services – both facility-based clinical services and nonfacility-based health services such as peer education, awareness-raising, community-based treatment, care and support, and other social services
Supporting people who are marginalized or discriminated against to access health
Supporting people who are marginalized or discriminated against to access health services
Mobilizing action among people who are marginalized for improved social conditions, including access to better quality services
Addressing broader social determinants of health including gender inequalities and
Addressing broader social determinants of health including gender inequalities and human rights violations and barriers
Advocacy for appropriate, enabling policy and legislative frameworks and governance, oversight and accountability, and
Monitoring services and programs and advocating for better protection of human
Monitoring services and programs and advocating for better protection of human rights and better access to quality health care
The main components of THE Community Response Systems include:
- Enabling environments and advocacy by supporting Civil Society structures in all three Provinces
- Community networks, linkages and partnerships
- Resources and capacity building for 32 CBOs and 18 of them receiving small grants
- Community activities and service
- Organisational and leadership strengthening of the PCAs, DACs and LACs
- Monitoring, evaluation and planning
